Caer y leventar, falling and rising

A cheerful and energetic young Mexican woman. You could simply not miss her artistic talent and entertaining was in her blood.
But then, a crippled leg as a six year old child, a serious bus accident as an eighteen year youngster, months of fighting the pain of broken bones (including ribs and spine), a miscarriage and finding out that she could not have children anymore, this and more. It happened to Frida Kahlo.

An intelligent artist who became an icon in the international art world. Her mother placed mirrors in her sick-bed so she could paint herself. Falling and rising in her case is an understatement. A strong woman who continued to amaze everyone with her spontaneous and 'rebellious' activities. In love she experienced joy and drama with the world famous artist Diego Rivera.

We thank Frida for sharing the true power in this world and her extraordinary paintings. Frida is Frida, Frida is unique.

Quotes van Frida Kahlo

Feet, what do I need you for when I have wings to fly?

I paint self-portraits because I am so often alone, because I am the person I know best.

I drank to drown my sorrows, but the damned things learned how to swim.

Pain, pleasure and death are no more than a process for existence. The revolutionary struggle in this process is a doorway open to intelligence.

I never paint dreams or nightmares. I paint my own reality.
